The Verb ESTAR (To be)
While the verb SER is used for permanent characteristics, ESTAR is used for locations, temporary states, and moods. A good way to remember it is: “How you feel and where you are, always use the verb ESTAR.”

- Location: To describe where someone or something is located.
- Madrid está en España.
- Yo estoy en la oficina.
- Temporary States / Conditions: To describe how someone feels or the physical state of something.
- La sopa está caliente. (The soup is hot).
- Ella está cansada. (She is tired).
- Emotions: * Nosotros estamos muy felices. (We are very happy).
