While the verb SER is used for permanent characteristics, ESTAR is used for locations, temporary states, and moods. A good way to remember it is: “How you feel and where you are, always use the verb ESTAR.”

- Temporary States / Conditions: To describe how someone feels or the physical state of something.

- Emotions: * Nosotros estamos muy felices. (We are very happy).
